It has been my experience that true medicine people find me. When ever I go out looking I usually get myself into a nasty mess.
Last night I had a visit from a dear sweet old friend. She is what I will call a true shaman or medicine woman. If you said anything like that too her she would deny it til the end of Day.
She is now 84 and it was such a surprise to see her.. She took a 10 hour road trip to hold my hand and the hands of others here in Edmonton.
She gave me a such a gift. She is so kind, so sweet. I could never quite figure out what and how she created such peace and safety for people. Last night she showed me and finally I got it. She had been trying to show me for near 15 years. As I sat with her as she laid in bed a tear of joy streamed down her face. A wonderful twinkle in her eye. She nodded her head as if to say yes you got it. She then asked me a question which I will ponder for a while.
She is a native from central BC She was raised not by the government as most native kids in Canada were for 100 years. She was hidden in the bush. She received no formal education but was taught the old ways by her mother and others. She was married and her husband died young. She birthed her nine children without a hitch, all but one was born in the bush.
She has no web site and no advertising. She has taught her daughters or rather sent them to learn.
I was up til the wee hours in the morning with her and her family. We talked about the drums and other medicines. We talked about how the native children need to find their culture in a good way. The daughters showed me some new plants and gave me some medicines.
As I went out side in the dark of night I could see so clearly. So brightly.
Her daughter is writing her story. It will be a great read I am sure.
